Pirates Star Among Seven Ruled Out

Orlando Pirates midfielder Patrick Maswanganyi won’t be able to face his former side SuperSport United this weekend, as he is among seven players who are ruled out due to suspension.

Maswanganyi has played all the Pirates league matches since joining the club at the beginning of the season from Matsatsantsa, and also scored in his side’s 2-1 win at Lamontville Golden Arrows.

Overall, the former U20 international scored three goals and has one assist under his belt, while also collecting several Man of the Match awards.

His fine performances haven’t gone unnoticed, as Hugo Broos named him in his preliminary Bafana Bafana squad for the Africa Cup of Nations.

But ‘Tito’ will miss the clash between Pirates and SuperSport United this weekend after picking up his fourth yellow card against Arrows.

There’s also six other players who are not available for selection this week – Khanyisa Mayo, the league’s top goalscorer, is not available for Cape Town City after receiving a second yellow card in the derby against Stellenbosch FC and will miss the last two games of the year.

Two of Chippa United’s key players in Ronaldo Maarman and Zuko Mdunyelwa will miss their clash against Polokwane City after picking up four yellows cards in their previous match.

Meanwhile, Boikanyo Komane of Richards Bay, Fawaz Basadien of Stellenbosch FC and Marks Munyai of TS Galaxy are all also suspended this weekend.
