The Premier Soccer League DC have confirmed that Richards Bay have received two fines for incidents involving the club.
The first incident involved the club’s chairman, Jomo Biyela, who was fined for making ‘unsavoury comments’ against Royal AM official Richard Makhoba. Biyela was fined R100,000 of which R50,000 was suspended.
The second incident related to spectator behaviour during the same game, and the club was fined R200,000, of which R100,000 was suspended
PSL prosector Zola Majavu confirmed the decisions on Tuesday.
“The second case was a misconduct case levelled against the chairman of Richards Bay Football Club, on account of unsavoury comments and unsporting behaviour directed at an official of Royal AM Football Club being Mr. Richard Makhoba,” Majavu explained in his release.
“The respondents pleaded guilty as charged, and again having listened to the submissions, the PSL DC ruled that the respondent should be fined a monetary amount of 100,000 Rands of which 50,000 is suspended for a period of 24 months on condition that during the period of suspension they’re not found guilty of the same offence.
“Specific emphasis was placed by the PSL DC on the fact that the respondent was a leader and the club owner and in the result, he was expected to behave in an exemplary manner.
“However, having tendered an apology to Mr. Makoba, which apology was also accepted the PSL DC felt that the order it had imposed was fair and reasonable under the circumstances.
“The same respondent which is Richards Bay, also faced a charge of spectator misbehaviour in that their spectators through measles during the game in respect of which the charges emanated. They were also fined an amount of 200,000 Rand of which 100,000 is suspended for the same period and another 100,000 payable effectively.”
