Orlando Pirates head coach Jose Riveiro says they are not thinking about the league title as they turn their attention to Richards Bay – who they failed to beat last season in three attempts.
After a run of nine games unbeaten to start the 2024/25 season, with seven wins and two draws, there’s growing optimism about the current squad.
With wins over Chippa United and Polokwane City, they currently sit second behind Mamelodi Sundowns who have a superior goal difference.
“We played two games, and we are so happy to collect maximum points in these two games, but right now our full attention is already on Richards Bay, recovery, travelling to Durban to regroup,” he said after beating Rise and Shine on Tuesday afternoon.
“If I’m wrong you can correct me, we played Richards Bay three times last season; got eliminated in the Carling Cup, drew 0-0 in [KZN] and lost the game here in Orlando.
“So, it goes without saying it’s going to be a tough game and if we’re going to collect to maximum [points] there, we have to only focus on that one.”
The Soweto giants travel to the King Zwelithini Stadium on Sunday where they face Brandon Truter’s side at 15h00 – who have four points from their opening three games.
