Rulani Gives Zungu & Saavedra Updates

Mamelodi Sundowns co-coach Rulani Mokweni has provided an update on Erwin Saavedra and Bongani Zungu.

Saavedra joined Downs in February from Bolivia. He only managed to make four appearances for the side, two in the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League and two in the DStv Premiership before he got injured.

The 26-year-old has been out of action for more than three months now as he got injured in February when Downs faced Al-Merrick of Sudan.

Meanwhile, Bongani Zungu re-joined the DStv Premiership champions a few days ago after parting ways with French Ligue 1 side Amiens. Zungu was unveiled at a packed Loftus Versfeld stadium when Masandawana faced Kaizer Chiefs.

Sundowns co-coach gave an update on both players stating that they both participated in a friendly match and they are close to returning to full first-team action.

“Saavedra played a friendly match without any discomfort and he is also on his way to participating full time in first team activities and official matches. Mokwena told reporters.

“Bongz is also coming, missed preseason which is a little bit difficult but also participated in the friendly [this week]. He played 30 minutes in the friendly without any discomfort.

“We were told by the fitness coaches that he could go even for 45 maybe even 60 minutes but we are very very conservative with that because we know what he can do and we will work in that space to try to also get him ready like many of the other players. So [we] exercising a little bit of caution.”
