Orlando Pirates legend Jomo Sono says head coach Jose Riveiro knows what he’s doing and is not a publicity coach.
The Spaniard arrived at Pirates as a relatively unknown figure with a mixed reception, having previously worked in Finland with FC Inter Turku.

However, he’s won four trophies, with back-to-back MTN8 and Nedbank Cup titles in his first two seasons at the club.
“He [Riveiro] knows what he is doing. I think he is a very good coach. He is not a coach who is after publicity, he just wants to do his job,” Sono said at their launch of the Lucas Batteries Sponsor.
“You have coaches, I know one here in the NFD, who are just a publicity coach and that’s it. Some are not publicity coaches, they are just doing their jobs.”
Sono added that while he’s been a great appointment, football can move fast, especially in the South African top-flight.
“He has done a good job with the players. I hope he stays but knowing football, you can wake up tomorrow and he is gone. That’s football,” he added before joking that he’s the only one who wakes up with a job as head coach and club owner.
