Stellenbosch FC and their towering defender Vusi Sibiya have parted ways one week before the start of the 2023/24 season.
Sibiya, 29, joined Stellies at the beginning of last season after Baroka were relegated and he penned a three-year deal with the club.
He made 24 appearances in all competitions including four in the Nedbank Cup where Stellies reached the semi-finals for the very first time in the club’s history.
This publication can confirm, on Friday, Sibiya and the club agreed to part ways amicably and allow him to join a new club.
Sibiya didn’t feature against Cape Town Spurs in a pre-season friendly this weekend and it appears they are set to add a replacement next week to make it five options at centre-back.
Currently, Steve Barker has Athenkosi Mcaba, Liam de Kock, who returned after an impressive loan spell with La Masia and two new signings Thabo Maloisane and Ishmael Toure.
They’ve already lost two of their last season defenders in Lasse Sobiech who recently retired and Olwethu Makhanya who was sold to Major League Soccer side Philadelphia Union.
