Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Lebohang Maboe has completed a move to Tshwane rivals SuperSport United on a short-term loan till the end of the current campaign.
Maboe has been at Sundowns since August 2018 when he joined from Maritzburg United and has gone to make close to 200 appearances with 23 goals and 20 assists for the Brazilians.
Before the local transfer window slam shut on Tuesday at midnight, Matsatsantsa managed to pull off the move at the 11th hour to see Maboe join them on a short-term loan.
The 30-year-old won nine trophies with the Tshwane giants, including six league titles and the African Football League. He will forever be remembered for scoring a hat-trick against Black Leopards on the last day of the 2019/20 season to win the league title right under Kaizer Chiefs’ nose.
As first reported by Kick-Off, SuperSport managed to secure Maboe’s signing on the last day of the transfer window while Thapelo Maseko’s deal to see him return to the Gavin Hunt-led side collapsed as Sundowns decided against loaning him out.
