Moroka Swallows have officially been charged by the Premier Soccer League for failure to honour two fixtures in the DStv Premiership.
Swallows confirmed in a statement for the final two league games against Mamelodi Sundowns and Golden Arrows, that they will not be present due to a player strike.
This arose over non-payment issues of salaries, with the club Chairman David Magashoa confirming to iDiski Times was due to a backlog of payments over not securing a title sponsorship for the season.
While the Dube Birds suggested the payments with players will be caught up, they are set to land in hot water with further punishment, with PSL prosecutor Zola Majavu confirming they were formally charged on Wednesday.
“I can confirm Moroka Swallows football club were charged for misconduct and bringing the league into disrepute pursuant to their failure to honour fixtures scheduled for the 27 and 30 December 2023,” Majavu confirmed.
“They will appear before the PSL DC on 11 January 2024 at 11h00 at the offices of the league – once the matter is finalised will a further update be provided.”
Swallows who were chasing a top-three spot before December now find themselves in 11th place with 19 points from 14 DStv Premiership games.
