Tinkler Gives Squad Update, Aims For Maximum Points

Cape Town City head coach Eric Tinkler has admitted that Lamontville Golden Arrows are a team that has been given them problems in the past, while he also confirmed that every player is available for Sunday’s selection.

City recorded their fifth straight league victory two weeks ago, when they defeated Royal AM 2-0 at DHL Stadium – setting up a new club record.

Tinkler’s side started the season with mixed results, winning their first two matches before losing five games in a row, including their MTN8 quarter-final. They turned the corner like nobody’s business as they went on to win five straight league games, including two away victories.

Despite Tinkler saying Arrows have often give them problems, the Cape Town-based side hasn’t lost a league game against Abafana Bes’thende since April 2019, but they did recently knock them out of the Carling Knockout Cup in the Round of 16.

“We come up against a team that has been always a very difficult team for us, even though over past seasons we have beaten them,” Tinkler told CT City media.

“The games were always extremely tough, not easy. Recently we obviously lost to them in the Carling Knockout Cup, but we come off a back of five wins [in the league] so we need to go to this game with a lot of belief, lot of confidence, a lot of moral but at the same time don’t show any complacency.

“They are going through a period of four losses, so their confidence and moral is not where ours should be so we need to play to our advantage.

“Make sure we go there put on a good performance and ultimately make sure that we come back with a maximum points but as I said before it won’t be an easy game.”

The former Bafana Bafana defender gave an update on his squad, saying they welcome back Colombian Juan Zapata and midfielder Relebogile Mokhuoane.

“We are fortunate with the fact that we have everybody available,” he added.

“Zapata is back fully fit he is up for selection, Katlego Mokhuoane is back fit, so he is also up for selection.

“Everybody is ready to go, the mood. But obviously we would’ve preferred not had have the break in order to achieve our objectives.”
