Former Mamelodi Sundowns striker Jose Ali Meza has returned back home, signing for Portuguesa FC in Venezuela.
Meza left Maritzburg United after they were relegated to the Motsepe Foundation Championship at the end of last season.
Meza, a stocky and tricky player, could not help Maritzburg to remain in the DStv Premiership after they failed to beat Cape Town Spurs in the vital PSL play-off game on a cold night at Harry Gwala Stadium in June.
The 32-year-old Venezuela international, who joined Maritzburg in the January transfer window under then-coach Fadlu Davids, featured in 17 matches in all competitions, scoring three goals in the process, but confirmed his exit to this publication at the time.
The 32-year-old has been announced as new signing by the club in Venezuela, returning home where he also played for Mineros de Guayana, Deportivo Tachira, and Always Ready. He won the league in Venezuela in the 2014/15 season with Deportivo and the Copa Venezuela in the 2011/12 season with Mineros.
Meza was signed by Sundowns ahead of the 2018/19 season. He was guaranteed of winning silverware, claiming two league titles, a Nedbank Cup and a Telkom Knockout in two seasons with the Tshwane giants.
