Zwane – Nabi Is Cooking Something…

AmaZulu FC co-head coach Arthur Zwane believes it’s clear that Nasreddine Nabi has progressed the team since his appointment.

The former Chiefs winger and head coach returned to his former stomping ground on Tuesday evening to face Amakhosi and came away with a point after a 2-2 draw.

However, Zwane admits it wasn’t an easy point to secure to return to Durban with, as he noted the changes implemented by Nabi, his technical team and the new-look squad.

“The best thing you can do when you’re playing Kaizer Chiefs at home is to frustrate them because you don’t want them to gain any momentum, but I must say Chiefs is doing very well, their passing patterns, I think coach Nabi is cooking something great,” Zwane said.

“They made our life difficult, and I must commend [my] players, they keep fighting, making sure that we don’t concede that second goal before half-time and then I think it gave us enough time to look at [Chiefs’] structure, knowing very well there will be changes.

“We then needed to be prepared for that and then ready to exploit because all systems have disadvantages, we did well at the start of the second half, and we got that second goal despite all the pressure from Chiefs.

“When we played out from the back, they started retreating as well, they could feel when they tried to win the ball in our half, we came out of tight situations. So, we progressed the ball well into creative phases, but we could have been more aggressive in the final third.

“We were even in the second half as compared to the first, where they created many clear-cut chances and Ofori kept us in the game – in the end we made two mistakes that were costly – but that’s football when pressure mounts you are bound to crack.”

Seventh-placed Usuthu trial fifth-placed Chiefs by two points in the Betway Premiership standings.
