CR Belouizdad head coach Abdelkader Amrani has been pleased with the progress of Khanyisa Mayo in his new 10 role as he continues to adapt to Algerian football.
After an indifferent start to life at the club after a club-record $800,000 transfer from Cape Town City, Mayo has found his feet playing behind the striker Aymen Mahious in recent weeks.
He played in the same role during their 1-0 win over Al Ahly last week and ahead of their clash against Orlando Pirates at eSgodini on Sunday, is expected to be fielded in the same role.
“I am very happy with his progress, we have to understand that in the beginning, it was a bit difficult for him, like it is for any person integrating into a new group, but he’s been working very hard in training,” he said.
“There’s a lot of potential in him and I believe he will do very well, I have been using him in different positions to see how it goes and it’s been going very well.”
Mayo, whose first goal in CRB colours came against Pirates in the reverse fixture as they lost 2-1 feels it’s now about taking his opportunities, with competition rife for positions in the team this season after a lavish off-season spending spree by the club.
“Yeah according to the positions I have been playing behind the striker a 10, unfamiliar position as South Africans know me as a number nine, but I am more comfortable with the ball at my feet, and as the coach said he’s trying me in different positions, wing, 10, at striker at times,” Mayo said.
“When I am called upon I give me 110 percent every day, at training or in games, for me, it’s about taking the opportunity with both hands and taking it every time.
