CAF Make Major Change Ahead Of Inter-Club Quarter-Finals

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has re-aligned their registration rules ahead of the inter-club quarter-finals this season.

After the completion of the group stages, CAF has changed the rulings which previously prevented players to play in the Confederation Cup and/or Champions League in the same season, as they would be declared cup-tied.

But in the official statement released on Thursday evening, they have stated they are now aligned to the same laws of the UEFA competitions, which would pave the way for players to be able to be registered in both competitions, should they make the transfer to a new club during the same season.

This will effectively allow players like Mamelodi Sundowns’ latest recruit Jayden Adams, to feature in the knockout stages of Africa’s elite club competition, having featured for Stellenbosch in the Confederation Cup and helping them qualify for the last-eight.

The CAF Executive Committee has also confirmed the registration deadline is the 28th of February, with the quarter-finals set to take place at the end of March and first week of April for the 1st and 2nd leg ties respectively.
