Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Miguel Cardoso says it’s possible to beat Al Ahly in the CAF Champions League.
The comments come after his side eliminated ES Tunis with a 1-0 aggregate score-line in their quarter-final tie while the defending champions saw off Al Hilal winning 2-0 on aggregate in their quarterfinal match to set up this anticipated clash later this month. The first leg of the semi-finals is scheduled for South Africa on 18 April and the second leg in Egypt on 25 April.
Cardoso who was on the losing side with Tunis against the Egyptian giants in last season’s final knows that though possible it will take some doing from his charges to pull off that upset.
“Well we know that Al Ahly in the last seven, eight years they won a lot of Champions League,” said Cardoso.
“Last year, unfortunately I lost the final against them but I think it’s possible to beat them.
“But we need to make two very, very complete games, two very strong games played on the details for sure. So we need to be very strong, we need to prepare ourselves in the best way.
“Well, it’s not that far away but still we have a Nedbank Cup semi-final to play that should be our focus now on Sunday also a very tough game.
“And then we’ll think about the Champions League again.”
