Mamelodi Sundowns made light weight of Burundi Premier League champions, Bumamuru in their CAF Champions League second preliminary round first leg.
The visitors beat Bumamuru 4-0 at the Azam Complex Stadium in Dar es Salam in Tanzania to carry a four-goal advantage back to South Africa.
Sundowns opened the scoring after just 12 minutes with Lucas Ribeiro Costa converting a penalty after a player by the home side had handled the ball inside the box.
Masandawana remained the dominant side and they added two more goals before the break to enter the break with a comfortable lead.
After 37 minutes, Ribeiro completed his brace, while Lesiba Nku put his name on the score-sheet in the 40th minute.
Rulani Mokwena’s side had a chance to add onto the scoreline right after the break but a shot by Ribeiro only rattled the crossbar to deny the Brazilian his hat-trick.
Sundowns kept on dominating their opponents but wasted quite a few good scoring opportunities, meaning they had to wait until the 79th minute when Peter Shalulile, who had come off the bench, made it 4-0.
Mokwena and his men will now switch their focus back to local football, with a DStv Premiership clash against Orlando Pirates awaiting them on Wednesday before they will face Kaizer Chiefs in the MTN8 semi-final second leg.
