Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Jayden Adams has acknowledged that his teammates are feeling the physical strain of a gruelling run of fixtures ahead of Sunday’s CAF Champions League final decider.
Head coach Miguel Cardoso previously conceded that the calendar had beaten his side, with Sundowns navigating seven games in 21 days. Adams, who missed a portion of that stretch due to suspension following a red card, offered a candid assessment of where the squad stands physically.
“I think for me personally, I got the rest, because of the red card. I think the other players are struggling — you can see in the games close to the 90th minute, you can see the guys are struggling,” he said.
“But yeah, we’re here to push. That’s what Sundowns do – play a lot of games, maybe in one week – so yeah, we’re pushing.”
Adams also addressed the weight of expectation bearing down on the club, with the Premiership title slipping out of their grasp and silverware yet to arrive this season. Rather than shy away from the scrutiny, the midfielder leaned into it.
“There’s a lot of pressure on us because we didn’t win anything this season, but as I said in the previous interviews, there’s no pressure right now in this moment; maybe on match day there will be,” he said.
“The pressure is a privilege for us and we’re going to show up and do our thing.”
Sunday’s second leg kicks off at 21:00 in Rabat.
