Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Rulani Mokwena has wished Bernard Parker a speedy recovery and insisted there was no “malicious intent” on Bongani Zungu’s side after the horror tackle which saw the TS Galaxy player being stretchered off.
Masandawana got eliminated from the Carling Knockout Cup, losing 5-4 on penalties after the match had ended 2-2 in 90 minutes and following extra-time.
But one of the big talking points was Zungu’s tackle on Parker, which looked like it resulted in a broken leg for the Galaxy man.
Zungu was seen arguing with the referee over his red card and Mokwena sent a message to Parker before insisting there was no bad intent from his player.
“I can only wish Bernard Parker a speedy recovery, I hope it’s not as serious as it looks,” he told journalists after the match.
“I know Bongani Zungu, I know it was not malicious and there was no malicious intent behind it.
“The only thing I can say on it is that I wish Bernard Parker a speedy recovery.”
Meanwhile, TS Galaxy have posted an update on Thursday morning, showing members of the technical team, including head coach Sead Ramovic, visiting Parker at the hospital.
“We wish Bernard Parker a speedy recovery following a horrific injury last night,” the club stated on social media.
“We’ve lost a soldier whom we shall dearly miss as our journey on the battlefield continues.
“Come back stronger, Die Hond! We dedicate last night’s victory to you.”
