Mothwa On Chippa Equaliser: I Made Mistake To Fly Like That

AmaZulu goalkeeper and captain Veli Mothwa has admitted that he made a mistake against Chippa United, and he should have done better.

With AmaZulu leading 1-0, Mothwa spectacularly dived to save a ball after he had palmed it first, but he appeared to be pushed by Elmo Kambindu and slipped in the process.

When he slipped, the ball got loose and rolled into the net. At first, it was a foul but the referee Moses Kheswa overruled that decision and awarded a goal and AmaZulu saw two points taken away despite their appeals.

The Bafana Bafana number two admitte he was supposed to have gathered the ball easily but didn’t, theatrically flying to the ball and losing balance at the end to cost Usuthu two points.

“We played 1-1 and you can’t say much about it,” said Mothwa when asked by iDiski Times.

“Everyone saw what happened. But I take that as a team captain and goalkeeper to say I made an error on that one.

“Maybe on another day I was supposed to take the ball easily, but the push is the push – you cannot dispute that.”

Meanwhile, AmaZulu will host Golden Arrows in the Carling Knockout quarter final at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday (19:00) and Usuthu coach Pablo Franco Martin was not best pleased about the decision as it will be a doubleheader of matches at the World Cup venue.

Richards Bay will host Orlando Pirates in the earlier quarter finals at the same venue, in what will be a busy day in Durban.

“It is the first time I see something like this,” said Mothwa when asked if the surface by the time they play might be damaged.

“But what can we say about it because even our training field is not in good conditions but we are training on it. Whatever will happen on the pitch, we just have to take it.

“It is the home game for Richards Bay and we are using the same stadium, but we will show up to the game.”
