Nabi – Should We Play Long Balls To Vilakazi?

Kaizer Chiefs head coach Nasreddine Nabi says the thrashing to Mamelodi Sundowns was a learning curve as his side struggled to impose themselves.

Chiefs were dumped out of the Carling Knockout Cup with an embarrassing 4-0 thumping by Sundowns as Iqraam Rayners bagged a brace, along with goals from Peter Shalulile and Khuliso Mudau at the Calabash on Saturday evening.

And when questioned about what went wrong on the day, Nabi stated, that they are still looking to maintain their style of football, but the players weren’t able to execute their game plan of attacking Sundowns from wide areas.

“It would be very simple if we had to change our way of planning our game plan, it’s true we played against a quality team, that were pressing high which we knew was going to happen, but what do we need? Play long balls to Vilakazi,” Nabi stated.

“Instead we want to improve our quality of play… we were a bit nervous, we need to improve our decision making, our technique, our confidence with teammates, sometimes we get the ball and teammates are reluctant to ask for the ball.

“For example, you have a solution to Sundowns pressing, simple solutions but there was bad decision-making, not making the good decisions. In how we want to play, there are a lot of situations.

“We believe that we made bad decisions most of the time, we knew the wide players were open and they didn’t get that kind of pressing but we tried to play through the middle, which was very difficult and this is part of the learning curve.

“It will improve our team and now we return to the training pitch, the drawing board to improve ourselves.”
