Parker Gives Update After Leg Break

TS Galaxy midfielder Bernard Parker has confirmed he is on the road to recovery after a horrendous leg break in their Carling Knockout Cup opener on Wednesday evening.

Galaxy advanced to the quarter-final of the competition by ousting DStv Premiership champions Mamelodi Sundowns 5-4 on penalties after the game ended 2-2 after extra-time.

It was high octane fixture to open the tournament with the Rockets racing into a two-goal lead before Sundowns fought back and netted an equaliser with the last kick of the game, but Parker’s leg-break from a controversial Bongani Zungu challenge perhaps overshadowed the encounter.

Parker has since successfully undergone surgery and was in good spirits, as he shared a message with his fans.

“Hi guys, the surgery was a success. Thank you so much for the love and support, especially from my family, I love you guys,” Parker said via his official IG account after thousands of messages of support flowed in for the veteran midfielder.

“Mr Tim Sukazi and the TS Galaxy family, the coaches, the management, thank you for the support. My captain, well done for the Man of the Match award and getting us into the next round as a team.”

Parker, who many feel will probably have played his last game in professional football at the age of 37 – went on to acknowledge the love he’s received during the difficult period.

“Everyone who sent messages, especially the other soccer clubs, thank you so much, and our supporters, my supporters – thank you so much for the well wishes and all the love you have been showing.

“I appreciate you. See you guys soon on the field, God Bless, One Love.”
