Magesi Secure Million Sponsorship

MEC for Economic Development, Environment and Tourism in Limpopo Rodgers Monama says Magesi FC will enjoy the same R1 million support the department has given other DStv Premiership sides from the province, provided they are complying with the law.

Monama’s department together with Limpopo Tourism Agency (LTA) hosted a celebratory function for Magesi in Polokwane on Wednesday.

Clinton Larsen’s side gained automatic promotion to the DStv Premiership and Monama says he knows they will need all the support they can get to maintain their status in topflight.

The MEC says they are throwing their support behind the clubs because of the economic spinoffs from tourism. In the past the department gave clubs a million rand each.

“The last team I think we were sponsoring them to an amount of R1m each,” said Monama to iDiski Times.

“Provided they are tax compliant, because we can’t sponsor them if they are not tax compliant. So they need to meet all the conditions but also we are assisting them in other things like their marketing and profiling and so forth. That’s the partnership that we need.

“But also we engage the involvement of the local municipality such as the Polokwane municipality so that they make some relaxations in terms of the hosting grounds and so forth.

“Like if they have to pay R500 000 per game in Polokwane Stadium or Seshego, they have to be very considerate because these are still new teams in the market and they are still struggling financially and the multiplying effects of the game.”

Dikwena Tsa Meetse have confirmed that they will utilize both the old and new Peter Mokaba Stadiums to host DStv Premiership matches next season.
