PSL Announce 2024 Awards Nominees

The Premier Soccer League have started the released the nominees for the 2024 PSL Awards.

It has been an exciting season and while Mamelodi Sundowns ran away with the DStv Premiership title, the race for the CAF Interclub spots as well as the final top eight spot is still heating up.

Also, Sundowns didn’t make a clean sweep of domestic trophies, with Orlando Pirates lifting the MTN8, while Stellenbosch FC won the Carling Knockout Cup – their first-ever silverware.

Ahead of the last DStv Premiership matchday of 2023/24 as well as the upcoming Nedbank Cup final between Sundowns and Pirates, the PSL released the nominees for this year’s awards.

Young Player of the Season Criteria Revealed

The nominees in the first major category were those for the MTN8 Last Man Standing, with all three candidates coming from winners Pirates, namely: Sipho Chaine, Zakhele Lepasa and Patrick Maswanganyi.

Meanwhile, Maswanganyi was also nominated for the Nedbank Cup Player of the Tournament, alongside teammate Tshegofatso Mabasa and Stellenbosch’s Iqraam Rayners.

Teboho Mokoena has just one nomination and it comes in the main award for the PSL Footballer of the Season, where he will be challenged by Rayners and teammate Ronwen Williams.

Meanwhile, Steve Barker and Jose Riveiro, battle Rulani Mokwena for the Coach of the Season award.
