Riveiro On Lorch Exit

Orlando Pirates head coach Jose Riveiro has insisted the Buccaneers still have an exceptional side despite losing Thembinkosi Lorch to Mamelodi Sundowns in the January transfer window.

Riveiro’s men held table toppers Sundowns to a 1-1 draw after Thapelo Xoki equalised from the penalty spot just three minutes after Marcelo Allende’s opener, despite being reduced to 10 men.

It was the Buccaneers’ first match without Lorch, who had moved from Soweto to Chloorkop on Deadline Day of the January transfer window.

However, Riveiro deflected a question on whether he will miss Lorch to explaining that he is trying to make the players he still has at his disposal better.

“We have an exceptional side, full of talent,” he replied when asked how much of a loss Lorch is for his side.

“And we have limited time to spend every day to spend with them, to try to improve them, to try to help them to have a good career, to get the dreams they want to get.

“So I have enough with the players that I have in my squad right now.”

Lorch featured 62 minutes on his Sundowns debut, before he was replaced by Sipho Mbule. Pirates are back in action next week when they will the SAFA representative of Mpumalanga in the Nedbank Cup.
