Ahly Confirm Squad For New EPL Season

Al Ahly have registered their squad for the 2022/23 Egyptian Premier League campaign with Bafana Bafana star Percy Tau included.

Tau, 28, was reported to have been made available for a transfer at the end of last season but after seeing potential moves scuppered over demands for a loan fee, he is set to stay put for the time being, while reports of a premature release were simply false.

Having been signed from Premier League club Brighton and Hove Albion in a deal worth €1.8 million (R30 million) by Pitso Mosimane, it was his sudden exit as head coach that cast doubt over his long-term future.

Despite being held in high regard by the club, his injury record is what has concerned the Red Devils but with Tau committed to remaining at the club, he will be aiming to get back to full fitness and impress for a potential move away from the club.

On Monday, Al Ahly confirmed that Tau has stepped up his recovery and will return to team training in around a week’s time.

For the time being, he’s now been registered in the CAF Champions League squad and domestic league and looks likely to form part of Marcel Koller’s plans for the upcoming season.
