Al Ahly Robbed? Hlungwani Dissects Disallowed Goal Vs Pirates

Former PSL referee Victor Hlungwani reckons that Al Ahly was denied a legitimate goal in their CAF Champions League defeat to Orlando Pirates this past weekend.

The defending champions succumbed to their second group stage defeat, going down 2-1 to the Buccaneers having also previously lost 1-0 to CR Belouizdad.

‘The Principal’ argued that the Red Devils’ goal should have stood because the player who scored the goal had received the ball from his teammate who was onside.

“Here we saw Al Ahly scoring a very good goal, and here we’re going to education,” Hlungwani said on SABC’s Soccerzone.

“Offside law says, at the moment the ball is played. The ball is played here and there’s a player in an offside position there.

“Does he interfere with play; does he interfere with an opponent? The answer is no!

“Then where does the ball go? It goes to a teammate. Now, this is a second phase where the ball is now played by a teammate to Hassan.

“So, now he scored. This is a beautiful goal because the ball was played by his teammate when he was in an onside position.”
