Bafana Bafana defender Thibang Phete is available as a free agent after his exit from UAE Pro League side Al-Bataeh CSC.

Phete joined the Emrati club in July 2022 following the relegation of B-Sad from the Preimiera Liga in Portugal, which ended his eight-year stay in the country.

He was not short of suitors after two impressive seasons in the top flight and opted for a lucrative move to the Gulf, but he’s now looking towards a new venture after just one season.

Injuries prevented him from having a major impact, as he made just 13 appearances, the last of which came in January, which resulted in missing out on recent national team call-ups under Hugo Broos.

“What a wonderful experience Thank you Al-Bataeh and all the best for the new season,” he wrote on social media confirming his exit.

Phete featured as a defensive midfielder in two FIFA World Cup qualifiers under Broos and his last appearance for Bafana was in defence in the 2-1 defeat to Morocco in Rabat in September last year.
