Carnell Sets MLS Record & Secures Champions League

Bradley Carnell has set a new Major League Soccer (MLS) with St Louis City and secured a place in the 2024 CONCACAF Champions League.

The expansion side (first season in MLS) has defied odds this season in Carnell’s maiden campaign as a head coach in the United States.

Having started his head coaching career with the University of Johannesburg before assistant roles at Free State Stars, Orlando Pirates and New York Red Bulls, the 46-year-old earned the role to lead the newly formed side.

With a record 17 wins in his first season, they have secured first place in the Western Conference with two games to spare.

They sit second behind FC Cincinnati in the overall table and will compete for the Conference Final title.

Former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Njabulo Blom has been a key figure in their impressive season with the 23-year-old racking up 26 appearances.

His performances have earned him widespread plaudits and has seen him by a regular call-up for the Bafana Bafana squad under head coach Hugo Broos.
