Davids Opens Up On Coaching Move To Europe

Former Orlando Pirates co-head coach has opened up on reuniting with Josef Zinnbauer at Lokomotiv Moscow.

Davids, 41, was unveiled as new assistant coach of Zinnbauer at Lokomotiv this evening after penning a deal until the end of the campaign.

He left Pirates at the end of the 2021/22 season, and had been linked with several local positions. However, he now completed a move to Russia to assist Zinnbauer, who had joined the club in the beginning of the campaign.

“It’s a huge honor being a part of such a huge institution of Russian football,” Davids said via a statement.

“Lokomotiv Moscow is well known amongst South African fans as it was the club of the late Jacob Lekgetho many years ago. I am here to be part of the future success of the club and it all starts today.”

Zinnbauer’s start in Moscow has been stuttering as his new side has only won three of their first 12 games under the German tactician and sit in 12th position on the log.

However, there is new hope that Davids and Zinnbauer can again form a formidable duo at club after ending Pirates trophy draught during their time at Orlando Stadium, when they led the Buccaneers to the 2020 MTN8 title.

Zinnbauer, when working with Davids, also had a 1.84 points per game average at Pirates, one of the highest in the club’s history. He had resigned from his post due to the critical health situation of his son. However, he told iDiski Times in an exclusive interview in edition 51 that he was ready to get back into the game.
