Former Chelsea and Ivory Coast winger Salomon Kalou has revealed he will send a message to one of his former teammates after receiving a gift from Kaizer Chiefs.
Kalou was working as assistant during the recent draw of the 2023 African Cup of Nations qualifiers, alongside former Chiefs captain Lucas Radebe.
The Glamour Boys used the opportunity to present the 2015 AFCON winner with a Chiefs limited edition 50th anniversary commemorative jersey, which the 36-year-old clearly appreciated.
“I can’t wait to send this picture of me with the Kaizer Chiefs jersey to Siaka Tiene,” he told Chiefs media team.
“He is always telling me about his time at Mamelodi Sundowns, but now I can show him my picture with the Kaizer Chiefs jersey.”
Kalou first crossed paths with Chiefs in 1999 when he was part of the Asec Mimosas squad that faced the Soweto giants in the Vodacom Challenge.
The Glamour Boys beat ASEC Mimosas, who were the reigning African champions at the time, 2-1 in the third-place playoff.
Kalou, who as a teenager at the time, left Mimosas in 2003 to join Feyenoord and had his most successful spell at Chelsea between 2006 and 2016, during which he won eight trophies including the Premier League and Champions League.
