Nabi Calls Out Officials After Serious Castillo Injury

Kaizer Chiefs head coach Nasreddine Nabi says more should be done to prevent serious injuries like the Edson Castillo incident that went unpunished.

Castillo fractured his fibula and looks likely to be ruled out for the next four to five months after a challenge with SuperSport United defender Bilal Baloyi.

It looked fairly innocuous with Baloyi attempting to clear the ball as Castillo entered the area where he appeared to make contact with the midfielder with his follow-through.

“I would like to take this opportunity to highlight and talk about Edson Castillo who has been injured against SuperSport,” he said.

“We want to express our deepest support for him and his family for the tackle against him, to his wife and kids that love Kaizer Chiefs.”

He continued: “We believe we should do more to prevent those types of injuries, one of the rules in football is to protect all players on the field.

“I feel I didn’t do enough to raise my voice against the actions, which was called a foul against us on the day. We truly support Castillo, with all our hearts with him in these difficult times.”

Chiefs return to action on Saturday when they host Mamelodi Sundowns in the quarter-final of the Carling Knockout Cup at FNB Stadium (18h00).
