Nabi Makes Surprise Admission After Sundowns Win

Kaizer Chiefs head coach Nasreddine Nabi admits two of his starting XI players in the win over Mamelodi Sundowns were injured.

Chiefs stunned Sundowns with a 2-1 win to book their place in the 2025 Nedbank Cup finals, with Wandile Duba and Ashely du Preez scoring to overturn Teboho Mokoena’s first half stunner.

Nabi’s side who lost three times to Sundowns this season, prior to the latest meeting at Loftus Versfeld, were notably missing some of their regular players and the coach admits it wasn’t an easy one for his squad as the likes of Aden McCarthy was part of his travelling squad due to the injury of vice-captain Inacio Miguel and Zitha Kwinika.

“Before the game we did not discuss injuries of players but now the time we can say before this game, we lost Miguel, then it was between Dove and Zitha, but they both got injured also,” Nabi stated.

“Dove played here with an injury, Zitha was on the bench with an injury and with that we brought Aden with us, he did a session with us, trained with us, but when they played DDC he travelled with them.

“Thabo Cele also had an injury, all of them played with injuries, but when you see the performances with our players, you can understand how much they love this team, how much they deserve to be in this team and what they did, they did for the fans. It’s to make them happy, to make them proud of us.”

Chiefs will face reigning champions Orlando Pirates in a highly anticipated Soweto Derby for the 2025 Nedbank Cup final at Moses Mabhida Stadium on 10 May.
