Official: Kortrijk Give Mailula Update

KV Kortrijk have announced the departure of Toronto FC loanee Cassius Mailula despite having an option to purchase the winger.

Despite the club’s promotion to the Belgian Jupiler Pro league, Kortrijk opted against purchasing Mailula.

The former Mamelodi Sundowns forward had a tough time in Belgium, only making three appearances for the club.

Mailula joined Kortrijk on loan from Toronto in June, fulfilling his dream of playing in Europe but the term did not go according to plan.

The 24-year-old will now return to Toronto FC where he still has a contract until 31 December 2026 – with the Major League Soccer side also holding an option to extend his deal.

So far, Mailula has only made eight appearances for Toronto’s first team, the last in June 2024.

He had a lively spell at Wydad Athletic Club on loan last season, where he also scored at the FIFA Club World Cup, but it seems Mailula now needs to hit the reset button once more.
