Cape Town City forward Khanyisa Mayo has completed a move to Algerian giants CR Belouizdad ahead of the new season.
Mayo, 25, has been one of the leading performers for City since he arrived from then-second-tier side Richards Bay in 2021.
His performances saw him secure the 2022/23 Lesley Manyathela Golden Boot award and earned him a place in the Bafana Bafana set-up where he’s featured four times.
Links with Mamelodi Sundowns and Kaizer Chiefs soon followed while there were murmurs of interest from Major League Soccer and Belgium.
However, in a surprise turn of events, the big-spending Belouizdad have secured a club-to-club agreement with City over the services of the technically gifted forward.
Mayo is said to be keen to test himself outside South Africa and CRB are set to provide opportunities for silverware and CAF Champions League football for his ambitions.
It marks a notable change in recent years with Percy Tau and Fagrie Lakay in Egypt with Al Ahly and Pyramids respectively, Elias Mokwana in Tunisia with Esperance Sportive de Tunis and potentially Bongani Zungu heading to Morocco with Wydad Atheltic Club.
Mayo has signed a three year deal with the Ligue One champions.
