Pitso Lashes Out At Journalist After Raja Win

Al Ahly head coach Pitso Mosimane lashed out at an Egyptian journalist after a bizarre question following their 2-1 win over Raja Athletic Club in their first leg CAF Champions League quarter-final.

Ahly secured a slender first-leg advantage to take to Casablanca next week against the Botola giants with first-half goals from Amr El-Solia and Hussein El-Shahat, Mohamed Zrida pulled one back for the Moroccans for a valuable away goal – while they finished the game with ten-men.

However, after the game – a journalist probed Mosimane about his team selection, asking why he never used Hossam Hassan – a topic that has been revisited several times this season since his R15-million transfer from Smouha – while he was also asked why El-Solia took the second penalty, which he missed.

“Hossam Hassan must play? These people are crazy, it’s unbelievable – are you serious? The problem of Hossam Hassan? It’s unbelievable,” Mosimane said in the post-match press conference.

“How do you know if he played he will score, how do you know? Will he score? Do you have a guarantee he will score, do you have a guarantee he will score, are you sure he will score, 100 per cent. Alhamdulillah.

“Didn’t you see El-Solia scored the penalty, how do you know he’s going to miss, do you know?”

At one point this season, Mosimane asked a journalist whether he was related to the player, who’s yet to open his account for the Red Devils and once made headlines for crying on the bench after not being utilised.

Mosimane went on to discuss the game and reiterated his confidence in his team that they will go to Morocco and secure a rare victory for the Red Devils and advance to the semi-finals of Africa’s elite club competition.

“It was a very difficult game for us, the game should have been killed here, we didn’t kill it but Inshallah we’ll win there, why not – I believe in my team.

“I’ve been to Morocco and we’ve won, okay I know the history here, when you’ve been to Morocco you’ve never won, but I’ve been here and we went to Morocco and won. I trust my team and believe in my team – why we did win is because we missed a lot of chances.

“There are a few elements I will discuss with my team and my players, I know and they know but it’s not for public media, I believe we will win in Morocco – okay? So you have to trust the team, don’t turn it around, you have to support these players, we need them.

“Now you come with Hossam Hassan today – are you serious, he’s been playing all the time, did he score? He’s been playing, didn’t I play him? I’ve been playing him, did he score? It’s not funny.”

The Club of the Century face Raja next week Saturday at the Stade Mohammed V for the second leg tie at midnight.
