Plymouth Argyle manager Wayne Rooney is satisfied with how his charges presented themselves against DStv Premiership outfit Orlando Pirates, saying they could’ve won the match.
The English Championship outfit commenced their pre-season under the watchful eye of the former Manchester United and England legend, who watched from the touchline as they twice rallied back to earn a 2-2 draw against the Buccaneers out in Marbella, Spain, on Friday.
Rooney admitted that it was not an easy game against Pirates but that he was happy with the showing from his players.
“Yeah, it was obviously a very difficult game,” Rooney said after the match.
“I think Orlando Pirates are a very good team. We knew that. The heat was out for some watching the game, so for the lads, it was very hot even.
“And then we’ve put in a lot of work this week. That’s what we were assessing yesterday, so it was important that we got the minutes, but also try and get some rhythm of the game.
“I thought we grew into the game but a little bit better in the second half.
“We could’ve won one or two in the game at the end, so. But overall, very pleased with the players,” he added.
Argyle continue their pre-season with a trip to Cheltenham Town at the Completely-Suzuki Stadium on Saturday, 20 July.
