Sekhukhune Snap Up Cape Town Striker

Sekhukhune United’s signing spree for new coach Kaitano Tembo has continued, with the club adding Tashreeq Morris to their roster.

The DStv Premiership outfit, who are going into their second top-flight campaign, have been one of the busier clubs in the off-season, as they look to build on their 11th place finish last season.

Morris is their 14th official signing. iDiski Times reported last week that Morris, and another former City player, Shane Roberts, had been training with Sekhukhune since the start of their preseason, but Roberts has reportedly since departed.

There have been technical team changes, with Tembo coming in, while former head coach Macdonald Makhubedu has moved into an assistant role. Owen Da Gama’s stint as a co-coach barely lasted two months, and he exited prior to Tembo’s announcement.

Morris, a striker who can also play out wide, has spent his entire professional career in Cape Town, having first burst onto the scenes as a teenager back at Ajax Cape Town.

Now 28, Morris made his debut back in 2013, and made 152 appearances for Ajax in all competitions, scoring 25 times. It was a promising career that was curtailed by a few long-term injury setbacks, but the Olympian bounced back each time.

He made the move over to neighbours Cape Town City back in 2019, and featured 59 times in all competitions for the Citizens, scoring ten goals but last season he only started seven times. Two of his ten goals came in the 2021/2022 campaign.

Now for the first time, Morris will look to ply his trade outside of Cape Town, having signed a two-year deal with Sekhukhune, with an option to extend.

Sekhukhune are expected to announce Morris’ signing at any time now.
