Kaizer Chiefs pay Stellenbosch a visit in the DStv Premiership with fans in attendance for the first time since Stellies moved to the Danie Craven stadium – here’s how both sides line up this evening.
Just a few days after coach Stuart Baxter sacking, Chiefs are set to be led by Arthur Zwane and Dillon Sheppard for the very first time this season. Amakhosi who lost the first round against Stellenbosch FC at the FNB stadium in November 2021 by 1-0 will look to keep their top-four hopes alive tonight.
Stellenbosch are currently three points behind fourth-placed Chiefs but has played two games more – as things stand. But a win over Stellies, who are looking to secure a place in the top-eight could dent Amakhosi’s top three hopes.
The Western Cape-based side, who last lost a home league game in December, will want to take advantage of a dramatic week at Naturena, just days after the sacking of coach Baxter.
Ahead of tonight’s encounter, Steve Barker couldn’t hold his excitement as they will be hosting fans for the very first at Danie Craven Stadium,
“I’m really excited for fans to be able to come to the stadium and see the development, the growth of homegrown talent, of players like Deano Van Rooyen and Ashley Du Preez, Jayden Adams, for the face to come out and see how they’ve sort of grown as players and watch them live,” Barker said.
“So ja, a big game for us as a club, a big opportunity for us to embed the top eight position and even with a victory against Chiefs, we can even look at trying to finish in those top four positions, and even dream of perhaps a CAF position.”
How they line up:
Stellenbosch XI: Stephens, De Goede, Kwinika, Mcaba, Van Rooyen, Van Heerden, Mthethwa, Jabaar, Adams, Du Preez, Moseamedi.
Kaizer Chiefs XI: Petersen, Ngezana, Mphahlele, Ngcobo, Blom, Mashiane, Alexander, Radebe, Dolly, Castro, Billiat.
