Cape Town City head coach Eric Tinkler has denied they are looking to bring Kermit Erasmus back to the club while addressing the issue of their new striker.
Erasmus, 34, has been linked with a return to the club after the exit of Khanyisa Mayo to Algerian giants CR Belouizdad.
During his previous stint before joining Mamelodi Sundowns, he scored 17 goals with three assists in 42 games but Tinkler who was asked whether they are looking at him for the new season stated: “Not at the moment, no.”
This was ahead of their MTN8 opener on Saturday against Sekhukhune United, where they will be relying on youngsters Jody Ah Shene and Luke Daniels to potentially lead the line.
iDiski Times broke the news last month that City have roped in French striker Amadou Soukouna but the player has yet to arrive in the country due to a travel ban imposed on him during his time in Thailand.
It’s been claimed the player overstayed his visa in the country due to his wife giving birth and only left after his partner was discharged from the hospital, which City were hoping to resolve to facilitate his entry into South Africa.
“I understand the ban the ban is should have already been lifted because he was banned until the 31st of July,” Tinkler explained.
“So unfortunately it hasn’t been sent yet. So he was stopped by Lufthansa. Lufthansa wouldn’t allow him on the flight because it’s still registered that he was he had a ban.
“But all that has to happen is that it has to be lifted and then he can fly. He overstayed his visa because his wife gave birth.”
The 32-year-old striker scored 11 goals in 52 games during his first stint in the country with Maritzburg United.
