Official: Nkunku Ruled Out Of World Cup

France have suffered another major blow ahead of the 2022 FIFA World Cup after Christopher Nkunku was ruled out of the tournament.

The 25-year-old was one of the most in-form players going into the tournament, scoring 17 goals assisting four more in 23 appearances for RB Leipzig this season.

However, Nkunku’s World Cup dream came to a premature end after picking up a knee injury in training ruled him out of the tournament in Qatar.

Randal Kolo Muani is expected to be called up as Nkunku’s replacement, which still needs to approved by FIFA. The Eintracht Frankfurt striker also had a great first half to the 2022/23 campaigns, scoring 8 goals and setting up 11 more.

FIFA, though, still need to approve the replacement after the deadline to submit official squads for the World Cup was on Monday, 14 November.

However, injured players can be be replaced, if given sufficient reason that the player in question cannot take part in the tournament.

Nkunku becomes the latest France star to be ruled out of the tournament, following Paul Pogba, N’Golo Kante and Presnel Kimpembe.
