Wydad Athletic Club coach Rulani Mokwena has revealed he wanted to face Manchester City because of Pep Guardiola.
The South African tactician and his new side were drawn in Group G alongside Man City, Juventus and Al Ain.

Mokwena was visibly elated after his side’s name were placed in Group G, as he will be facing one of his coaching idols in Guardiola, admitting meeting Pep was a major motivation for him.
“Yeh, because of Pep Guardiola, for sure,” Mokwena told the club’s media.

“But I think it’s a good test for us. We try to create a model of play that is a bit similar to how Manchester City plays.
“So, I think we will have a very good match, we have a very good squad, we have to believe in ourselves and be strong.
“And this is a great opportunity, and that’s how we have to look at it – a great opportunity to put Wydad in the map in the world.”
The 2025 FIFA Club World Cup kicks off on 15 June in 2025, when Inter Miami will face Al Ahly.
