What Renard Told Saudi Stars In HT Talk To Inspire Argentina Beating

Saudi Arabia’s 2-1 win over Argentina has been the big upset at this year’s FIFA World Cup so far, and what Herve Renard told his players at half-time has been revealed.

The Arab nation entered the contest against the Copa America champions as clear outsiders, with the Albiceleste unbeaten 35 successive games.

The first half went as many expected, with Argentina taking the lead thanks to a penalty by Lionel Messi. Argentina had three more goals ruled out by offside and it looked like it was only a matter of by how much and not if they would beat Saudi Arabia.

However, the No.51 in the FIFA rankings came out a complete different side in the second half and turned the game on its head in just eight minutes into the second interval, thanks to goals by Salah Al-Shehri and Salem Al-Dawsari.

Many wondered what inspired this massive comeback win, with the Saudi national team now releasing video footage of Renard’s emotional half-time speech.

“Messi, he has the ball in the middle of the pitch and you stand [hands up] in front of the defence… you have to go and mark him in the middle,” he said.

“Take your phone, you can make a picture with him!

“You don’t feel we are able to come back? You don’t feel it? You play relaxed. Come on guys, this is the World Cup. Give everything!”

You can watch the full speech of Renard in the video below (from minute 6:20):
