FIFA have announced the 2022 FIFPro World XI during the FIFA awards gala on Monday.
It’s the only football award that is exclusively voted for by the players themselves, with nearly 25,000 professional footballers from 68 countries around the world having voted for the team.
Footballers pick the three players who, in their opinion, were the most outstanding in the 2021/22 season in each of the following positions: goalkeepers, defenders, midfielders and forwards.
The goalkeeper, three defenders, three midfielders and three forwards with the most votes in their position make it into the World 11. The 11th spot is assigned to the outfield player with the next highest number of votes.
The FIFA FIFPRO Men’s World 11 is comprised of the best 11 men’s players from around the globe. The awards are given to the most outstanding players in each position based on their performances during the period 8 August 2021 to 18 December 2022 inclusive. Players must have appeared in at least 35 official matches (at domestic top flight or international level) during that period.
The Men’s World 11 had 26 nominees, and the biggest talking points were the absences of Real Madrid winger Vinicius Junior and Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah.
