Former Amajita Forward Set To Be Unveiled In Portugal
Former Ajax Cape Town and Ajax Amsterdam forward Leo Thethani is believed to have signed for a club in Portugal.
A year after leaving the Dutch giants, Thethani has joined second division Portuguese club União Desportiva Oliveirense.
iDiski Times has learnt via a source in Portugal that Thethani has signed a one-year deal with an option to extend at Oliveirense, who finished bottom of the table last season.
Thethani came through the youth academy at Ikamva. After setting the local scene alight, and shining for the Ajax youth teams, he was promoted to the senior team ahead of the 2017/2018 Premiership season. However before he could play a game for the Urban Warriors first team, he was transferred to Ajax Amsterdam in Holland.
The 22-year-old was one of the last two South African players to move to Amsterdam in the partnership with their former South African affiliate, but neither he nor Dean Solomons were able to break into the first team at Die Toekomst.
Unfortunately his time in Holland was hampered by a number of injuries, and he made just a handful of appearances for the Ajax Jong Team in his three seasons in Amsterdam, and was often an unused substitute.
A regular for the junior international teams, Thethani will now look to resurrect his promising career in Portugal.
