Chiefs Give Squad Update Ahead Of CAFCL Final
With Chiefs having eight players whose contracts expired last month, the club has given an update on the availability of their squad ahead of the CAF Champions League final.
The Glamour Boys were facing a contract dilemma, as several of their players, who have been crucial in the club’s heroic run to the CAF Champions League final, were out of contract.
Without an existing deal and registration with the Premier Soccer League, those players would not have been available for the final against Al Ahly on 17 July, while new signings would not be able to be registered for the CAF competition despite Chiefs transfer ban from FIFA having come to an end.
However, the Amakhosi leadership have worked hard behind the scenes to sort out the contract situations after the deals of Bernard Parker, Itumeleng Khune, Willard Katsande, Bruce Bvuma, Ramahlwe Mphahlele, Khama Billiat, Lebogang Manyama and Kgotso Moleko all expired by the end of June.
It seems all those contract issues have been sorted in one way or another ahead of the final, with Chiefs’ communications manager Vina Maphosa confirming that all players are still with the club.
“All the players are in training,” he said, without going into detail about the contractual situation of any players, when contacted by iDiski Times for a comment
“The availability will be confirmed in the pre-match conference on Friday.”
Maphosa has also told TimesLIVE that: “Everybody is available for the final. It means they have worked out something. What I have in my notes is that everyone is available for the final — that’s all that I have.”
Chiefs are yet to make a public announcement on the contractual situation of their players, while they have also signed a few new faces already without publicly unveiling them.
