Pitso Not Resting Stars Ahead Of Chiefs Final
Pitso Mosimane has insisted that he will not rest Al Ahly players ahead of the CAF Champions League final against Kaizer Chiefs.
The South African tactician and his side collected an important victory over Mokawloon in the Egyptian Premier League on Thursday night but still have one more game before facing Chiefs in the CAFCL final on 17 July.
On Sunday, Al Ahly will meet 10th-placed team Misr Lel Makasa, but Mosimane stated that it would be dangerous to rest players ahead of the clash with Chiefs.
“If we want to win the league, we must win the next match,” he told reporters.
“If we rest any player in the league, is that a guarantee that we’ll win the Champions League final?
“So we should be very careful about that. Take one step at a time, we need the three points.
“Then we have five-and-a-half days to prepare for Kaizer Chiefs, that is long enough.
“We can’t talk about Kaizer Chiefs today, because if I think about Kaizer Chiefs we’re going to have a problem against El Makasa in the next match.”
Al Ahly will have played four games between their CAF Champions League semi-final second leg and the final, while Chiefs didn’t have any fixtures since knocking out Wydad Casablanca.
