Official: Brighton Sign Tau Replacement
Brighton & Hove Albion have signed Marc Cucurella after Graham Potter reportedly wanted to secure a replacement for Percy Tau.
Tau left the Premier League side last week to reunite with his former coach Pitso Mosimane.
Seagulls coach Graham Potter confirmed that the 27-year-old wanted to leave to secure regular game-time, but reports in England state that the coach only okayed the transfer if Brighton would find another left-footed player to join the squad.
Brighton have now confirmed the signing of former FC Barcelona winger Marc Cucurella who joins the club from Getafe on a contract until June 2026, for undisclosed terms and subject to international clearance.
“We have been keen to bring Marc to the club, and we are really pleased to finally welcome him here and are excited to begin working with him,” Graham Potter told the club’s official website.
“He has had a fantastic education in the youth teams at Barcelona and he has gone onto make a real impression in La Liga and within the national set up. He is a versatile player, and he will add competition and options to the squad.”
Cucurella, who made 106 appearances in LaLiga for Getafe and Eibar, is the club’s third addition to the senior squad of the summer transfer window, following the earlier arrival of Enock Mwepu and Kjell Scherpen.
