The quarter-finals of the Olympics were confirmed after two African sides qualified for the last eight of the tournament.
Ivory Coast and Egypt booked their quarter-final tickets on Wednesday, while South Africa were sent home without a single point.
South Africa lost 4-0 to Mexico to remain at the bottom of Group A, while Ivory Coast finished in second place in Group D after holding Germany to a 1-1 draw.
