Pitso Mosimane has made a huge admission after Al Ahly dropped points in the Egyptian Premier League, just days following their CAF Champions League final win over Kaizer Chiefs.
The South African coach saw his side concede a late equaliser in their 1-1 draw with National Bank of Africa on Thursday evening to drop valuable points in the title race.
Mosimane had six of his players unavailable after they were called up up to Egypt’s Olympics team but didn’t want to blame player absentees for the dropped points.
“We will fight for the league title,” he told the club’s media department.
“We have mistakes and we have to correct them. We did not play well and I am disappointed with my team and myself.”
“We had several chances in the first half, but we failed to convert them. Football always punishes you when you do not take the chances.”
“If I want to find an easy way out, I will say absences, but I am not the type of coach who looks for execuses. We knew from the beginning that we will miss players.”
“We have to support the country. It is not a FIFA tournament and you can say no, just as the European clubs that said no.”
Al Ahly now sit nine points behind log leaders Zamalek with three games in hand.
