Pitso – Why I Rejected Bafana Offer
Pitso Mosimane has explained why he rejected the Bafana Bafana offer he received before Hugo Broos was appointed.
The Al Ahly coach had already revealed that Bafana offered him a “retirement contract” but he preferred to stay with Al Ahly.
He has now given more details on the offer from the national team before insisting he rejected it because he not yet done with the Egyptian giants.
“South African national team made me a six-year offer worth a very high sum,” Mosimane told Al Ahly TV.
“Everyone told me that results were not going so well with Al Ahly in that period and I should take the easy route and the money from South Africa.
“Despite having only two years remaining in my deal with Al Ahly I chose to continue because I want to win the Champions League again and achieve more titles with the club.
“I informed (Al Ahly president) El-Khatib that I am staying with the team,”
“In South Africa all people wanted me there but I preferred to stay with Al Ahly as it’s a big opportunity for me.”
Mosimane has lifted three titles with Al Ahly already, namely the Egyptian Cup, the CAF Champions League and the CAF Super Cup, while he also collected an Egyptian Premier League medal after the league title had been secured by his predecessor Rene Weiler.
However, he can still lift a lot more silverware this year, with Al Ahly still challenging for the Egyptian Super Cup, the Egyptian Cup, the Premier League and the CAF Champions League.
