Pitso’s Al Ahly Return To Winning Ways
Pitso Mosimane’s Al Ahly returned to winning ways on Saturday after beating ENPPI 3-1 to close in on title rivals Zamalek.
The ‘Club of Century’ had experienced their first domestic defeat under Mosimane in the previous game, losing 2-1 to Smouha thanks to a last-minute goal.
However, they were out for revenge on Saturday, trying to close their gap on leaders Zamalek.
Al Ahly started on fire, scoring the opener inside the first minute after Hussein El Shahat received a superb through-ball and finished ice-cold past the ENPPI keeper.
Just two minutes later, Al Ahly scored the second with Mohamed Sherif scoring past the opposition keeper from close range.
Mosimane’s men had the ball again in the back of the net after 11 minutes but the strike was ruled offside.
ENPPI thought they pulled a goal back after 34 minutes but winger Mohamed Shalaby had handled the ball before converting from close range.
Al Ahly scored the 3-0 just before half-time after Amr El Soulia smashed the ball in the top corner following a fine free-kick routine.
ENPPI eventually scored after 54 minutes, thanks to a converted penalty by Rami Sabri. The hosts, however, remained in control of the tie and returned to winning ways in convincing fashion.
The victory saw Al Ahly close their gap on leaders Zamalek to just three points with two games in hand.
